I am the executor of an estate – What do I do with a junk car?

A reader asks…

I am the executor of an estate.  There is a junk car.  Do I have to put car in my name to have hauled it off or sign executor on the title, so it can be off to the junk yard ?

  • Pat:

You don’t have to put it in your name.
Just sign it over to the junk dealer.
And have a copy of your executor’s certificate with you.

What Pat says is true. I’d like to add that you can get it towed away for free just by filling out an online form. You don’t even have to be around when they pick it up.

Or, you can try selling your junk car if you’d like some cash. Again, just fill out the online form.
